#elitehotseat: AMARSANA GENDUNOVA

How would you describe your own sense of style? And how does your personal style influence the way you work?
-- I always tend to go for classier, french and chic looks; however, sometimes I take a slightly sexier direction with my personal looks and than other times I go with trendier numbers. They definitely influence each other. It's more challenging for me to go busier with layers and accessories when personally, I like clean minimalistic and effortless looks. Of course, once I take the other direction my brain works the opposite way. Generally when I work on a project my mind is so into it that style, I start noticing my personal outfit choices change and they feel inspired by my work.

Holiday season is upon us, and you know better than anyone how to dream up a statement-making look. What are your tips for holiday dressing?
-- I would get fun hosiery! Polka dots, stars, stripes, classy fishnets or anything you like! Sweater dressing of course is always a good idea! Just pick the right ones. Try to look for good quality ones since with sweaters it's so easy to see it and they will last longer :-) And yes, if you look well enough, you can find excellent knits under $100/$150.

How do you find your inspiration at this time of year?
-- During this time of year the industry gets quiet. Most projects won't happen until January. In a way, my mind turns off. Casually I look through inspirational books. There are so many right now. You can tap into art books, photography, designer biographies, etc. Classic movies that are filmed beautifully also are very useful. Since it's less busy, I spend some afternoons at art galleries as well. Luckily living in NY helps with options.

Accessorizing is what really makes a head-to-toe look. What are your go-to accessories to elevate a look?
-- Belts, Hats, Earrings, Hosiery, Shoes and Bags! All these are my go-to accessories! Not all together* unless somehow it make sense :-) No one wants to be a Christmas tree!

As a stylist, you're focused first and foremost on fashion, but how do you think beauty comes into play?
-- Beauty can make or break a look. It's important to know when to stop or when you can add more. You cannot go wrong with Parisian girl beauty looks. French women that do it right: Laetitia Casta, Lea Seydoux, Audrey Tautou, Louise Follain, Jeanne Damas.

If you can only wear one designer the rest of your life, who would it be?
-- Tough question. Since I definitely need that designer to have shoes, bags and accessories, I would pick Saint Laurent. It's chic and sexy. Can I pick two? The second one would be Balenciaga or Prada If I could pick more they would be, Dries Van Noten, Jacquemus, Alessandra Rich.

Looking forward to 2018, what personal or professional projects are you most excited about?
-- I don't like to talk about the projects that haven't happened yet. Follow me on @amarsana_style for updates and let's talk next year!
